The inspiring couple of American astronaut Mark Kelly and former US Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords are boarding a ship of another kind this summer: Crystal Cruises’ Crystal Serenity for a luxury Mediterranean sailing from Lisbon to Rome on 25th July. Kelly is scheduled to speak to guests about the power of the human spirit, with wife Gabby joining for a special appearance and photo opportunity at end of the presentation.
The couple quickly gained fame in January 2011 when Arizona Representative Giffords was the victim of an assassination attempt - just months before Kelly’s scheduled command of the final Space Shuttle Endeavour flight. Following more than a year of her intensive rehabilitation for a gunshot wound to the head, and his 17-day trip into earth’s orbit, the heroic husband-wife team have now retired from their government positions while Giffords continues to recuperate.
“We are honoured that, after such a challenging year, Mark and Gabby have chosen to travel on Crystal Serenity. We look forward to Mark sharing their incredible story of love, trials and triumphs with Crystal guests,” says Vice President International Sales & Marketing, Philip Ordever. “It’s tough to compete with a trip to the stars, but we hope a trip in six-star style will come pretty close. We can at least guarantee it will be more luxurious, and give them the ease and comfort they need to rest and recover.”
The 12-night “Romancing the Riviera” voyage starts on 25th July with an overnight in Lisbon before sailing to Gibraltar, Barcelona, Palamós (maiden call), Cannes, Monte Carlo (overnight), Florence/Livorno, Porto Venere and Rome/Civitavecchia. Until 30th April, “Book Now” fares for the cruise start at £3,996 per person including return scheduled flights, overseas transfers, 12 nights in a deluxe stateroom with picture window on an all-inclusive basis and $500 per stateroom shipboard credit.

Crystal Cruises’ guests can now sail through airports in VIP fashion, bypassing the customary stress associated with flying. Door-to-gate porter and escort services, fast-track processes, and access to VIP/Business Class Lounges, where available, are all part of the groundbreaking, new “Crystal VIP Airport Service” – the first of its kind offered by a cruise line.
The personalised, 24/7 luxury service, available for purchase internationally by all Crystal cruisers, utilises worldwide, “on-the-ground” airport resources to facilitate a hassle-free airport experience for guests travelling to and from their Crystal ship. Travellers will feel like a superstar with customised, luxury services that may include:
• Greeting upon airport arrival (inbound, outbound and connecting flights)
• Luggage porter service
• Flight tracking and handling, including assistance with delayed or cancelled flights and related lodging, transportation, meals etc.
• Escorted and expedited check-in, security, customs and immigration
• Entry to restricted-access airport lounges
• Preferred boarding
• Limousine/town car transfers between airport, home, day room, and/or ship
“Thanks to security queues, long treks, uncomfortable chairs and cumbersome luggage, the modern-day airport experience has lost the ease that flying once provided,” says Vice President of International Sales & Marketing, Philip Ordever. “Whether one prefers to travel discreetly, or just minimise inconvenience, this service ushers you into the refined gentility of the Crystal experience from the moment your holiday really begins - when you leave home.”
Packages are available for up to four people, in hubs around the globe, from New York and Los Angeles to Rio and Hong Kong. Prices vary depending on location and the services selected, with amenity menu subject to local laws, regulations and/or airline/airport policies. Guests can log into Crystal’s online “Priority Check-in & Planning Center (PCP)” for specific options correlating to their flight itineraries.
Crystal Cruises’ ethos of warm and friendly attentiveness, proffered by top-trained service staff from around the world, has earned the line a reputation for elevating hospitality to an art form. With no guest request left untended, Crystal has been the perfect choice for luxury travelers for over two decades, earning “World’s Best” ratings more than any other cruise line, hotel or resort in history.

As Crystal Cruises prepares to go “All-Inclusive” next month, the ultra-luxury line has decided to focus on significantly more local shipboard overnights at the beginning of cruises. For the upcoming European season, Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony have doubled the number of voyages that begin with days (and nights) in port. The move eases the worry of late flight arrivals, lost luggage, relocating to/from hotels, finding quality restaurants and settling in prior to sight-seeing. This move also enhances recreational choices due to more extensive options being available onboard Crystal’s ships than can be found at hotels on land.
“By adding more overnights to the cruises, especially at embarkation, travellers only have to unpack once, yet get even more time to experience a culture, while still having their Crystal home as a luxurious base,” explains Vice President International Sales & Marketing, Philip Ordever.
Overnights at the disembarkation ports of Venice, Barcelona or Istanbul, for example, allow guests to see significantly more of the final destination without having to move to a hotel or rush to the airport to fly home. Crystal has also added overnights to the middle and/or end of the majority of cruises this year.
26 large cultural capitals and smaller destinations renowned for their charm are featured in North America, the Pacific and Europe from March through December, with 69 overnights planned in Europe alone. A sample includes:
Crystal’s new strategic planning evolution will extend through 2013 into 2014, with more than 85% of next year’s 64 itineraries offering two or more days in port and a more than 50% increase in overnights on embarkation day.
Until 28th February, “Book Now” fares for 2012 start from £1,766 per person (based on a seven-night voyage from Barcelona to Rome departing 8th April) including return scheduled flights, overseas transfers and seven nights in a deluxe stateroom with picture window on an all-inclusive basis.
The renowned Crystal Experience has been rated “World’s Best” more than any other cruise line, hotel or resort in history.

With almost a dozen dining choices on each ship, Crystal Cruises’ most popular daytime gathering spot, The Bistro, is expanding to evening hours. Reflecting the space’s European-style sidewalk café ambiance, the complimentary menu will offer “small bites”, desserts and “midnight” snacks, along with premium wines and flavoured coffees. The new nightly café debuts in April on Crystal Symphony and in June on Crystal Serenity, shortly after the ships go all-inclusive.
The Bistro has long been a meeting place for cruisers due to its central location and quick, easy access to continental breakfast, fresh fruits, afternoon snacks and wide selection of teas and coffees, from morning to late afternoon. Signature Guy Buffet china and Six-Star service remains at night, but the gastronomic offering is greatly expanded:
6pm to 8pm: Charcuterie of cured meats, prosciuttos and pâtés, plus international cheeses paired with premium wines and champagne.
8pm to 11pm: Artisan cheeses with complementary accompaniments such as truffle honey and fig chutney, plus an assortment of fresh fruits and desserts including a chocolate fountain and petit fours handmade by onboard pastry chefs, with finewines, digestifs and hot drinks.
11 pm to 12am: Late-night munchies such as mini-sandwiches, freshly-baked pizzas, quiche, tandoori chicken and trendy beef “sliders.”
“In traditional Crystal luxury fashion, our evening Bistro brings onboard the elegance and international panache of a European café experience—a central place to meet, people-watch and enjoy a glass of wine or espresso and a snack,” says Vice President International Sales & Marketing, Philip Ordever. “In addition, this expansion really enhances the culinary and social options for guests who spend a full day sightseeing and like to mix up their evening dining.”
Casual dining on deck is also offered most evenings with a new Chinese “Comfort Food” menu enhancing the gourmet choices on Crystal Serenity.
Extraordinary culinary experiences are a hallmark of every Crystal holiday. The ultra-luxury line’s extensive, innovative choices include coveted cheese and wine cellars overseen by on-board, certified cheese and wine sommeliers (Court of Master Sommeliers-certified); fresh, chef-like cocktails served by certified mixologists; gourmet dining options at every meal, whether in the Crystal Dining Room, at afternoon tea or in Nobu Matsuhisa and Piero Selvaggio’s specialty restaurants; and, starting this spring, all-inclusive premium spirits, fine wines and champagnes throughout the ship.
Until 28th February, guests can enjoy up to £625 per person in “Book Now” Savings on 48 remaining 2012 worldwide itineraries, including 25 seven- to 15-night voyages visiting the Mediterranean from March through December.

Crystal Cruises, known for its ultra-hands-on service, has announced a first-of-its kind check-in process that will ease embarkation procedures for all guests. Effective today in every Crystal embarkation port, “Crystal Fast-Track Check-In” eliminates 100% of ship check-in procedures in port terminal waiting areas, transitioning guests from dock security to the Six-Star comfort of Crystal Symphony and Crystal Serenity lounges.
By utilising a new barcode on each guest cruise ticket, a new ticket scanning system and the consistency of Crystal’s own onboard crew, the cruise line is accelerating the check-in required on the first day of sailing. As is customary, in each embarkation port, porters load guests’ luggage onto the ship and guests observe required local security procedures as they enter port terminals. However, instead of processing documentation in the terminal, guests are whisked through and ushered onboard to complete registration and receive their room keys/boarding cards with photo identification.
“Travellers want to start their holiday as soon as possible,” says Philip Ordever, Crystal’s Vice President International Sales. “By enhancing the ease, comfort and speed of embarkation day logistics, our guests get instant access to the ship and can enjoy the luxury of the Crystal Experience all the sooner.”
Crystal’s ethos of warm and friendly attentiveness, proffered by top-trained service staff from around the world, has earned the line a reputation for elevating hospitality to an art form. With no guest request left untended, Crystal Cruises has been the perfect choice for luxury travellers for over two decades, earning “World’s Best” ratings more than any other cruise line, hotel or resort in history.

Ultra-luxury Crystal Cruises has launched its complete 2013 worldwide cruise collection – one of the first of the luxury cruise lines to release its entire 2013 calendar and fares, as well as open all cruises for bookings. For travellers who like to plan ahead, ’13 is a lucky number as “Book Now” fares offer guests the best prices for early bookings made by 28th February or 30th June, 2012 (depending on cruise departure).
Significant changes, such as an increased number of shorter cruises, distinguish Crystal’s 2013 repertoire of 64 itineraries visiting 62 countries and 226 ports-of-call worldwide. Due to the overwhelming popularity of its Northern Europe itineraries in 2012, Crystal has opted to switch its initially scheduled vessel deployment: Crystal Serenity will summer in the Baltic, North Cape and British Isles (in addition to spring and summer Mediterranean seasons), while Crystal Symphony will spend her summer in the Mediterranean.
Other new highlights include:
In all, Crystal Symphony kicks off 2013 with a super-VIP New Year’s fireworks gala in Sydney, then remains in the region, exploring Australia, New Zealand and Asia prior to a European/Mediterranean-focused summer, North American autumn and Central/South American/Antarctic holiday season ending in Chile.
Crystal Serenity’s 2013 routing begins in the Caribbean before heading to a South American World Cruise, then Europe for most of the year before returning to the Caribbean/Central America for Christmas.
Early bookings offer maximum savings on 2013 itineraries, including:
2013 prices start from £2,384 per person, including “Book Now Savings”, free round-trip air transportation, overseas transfers and all-inclusive accommodation including amenities such as gratuities, fine wines and spirits, specialty restaurants (including the lauded cuisine of Nobu Matsuhisa), Open Dining by Reservation®, and stimulating onboard entertainment and enrichment.
Crystal’s passion for taking care of guests in an inviting environment of extraordinary space, quality and choices has earned the company more “World’s Best” awards than any other cruise line, resort, or hotel in history.
