Seasonal Cruise Holidays, Christmas, New Year and more

Forget catering for an army of relatives this Christmas or queuing to get into your favourite bar on New Year’s Eve – why not give yourself the ultimate gift and head off on a cruise?

Most ships throw themselves into the festive spirit with great gusto, with beautiful and elaborate Christmas decorations and huge trees. Many hold midnight mass on Christmas Eve and a service on Christmas morning, have carol singing and visits by Santa, Christmas entertainment, and of course, a sumptuous turkey lunch.

Christmas day is often spent at sea with a programme of celebrations, although some ships rest in port allowing passengers to go ashore for local services. Many ships draw additional inspiration from their region of origin with some American lines holding Hanukkah services in addition to their Christmas festivities, or creating a generic ‘holiday’ theme to allow for diversity.

A few days later, the fun starts all over again. There are few more exciting ways to see in the New Year than docked in the heart of a fantastic city or under the stars in the middle of the ocean, and ships throw equally elaborate parties on New Year’s Eve. With everything included in the booking price, there will be none of the entry fees found back home, and babysitting services mean parents can have an adult evening out just moments from their cabin if they’re needed.

Christmas and New Year cruises get booked up very quickly so make sure you book well in advance.
