There's a wide choice of daytime activities on cruise ships for all ages, including families. As well as lazing by the pool, you'll find opportunities to learn something new, brush up on old skills or just relax with a book from the on board library. There may be lectures by notable experts in their field, on topics as varied as history and current affairs, to the secrets of being a spy and astronomy. The days when you went on a cruise just to take the sea air are well and truly history. Today's larger cruise ships have a great choice of on board sporting activities for all ages, while some of the smaller, boutique ships offer a water sports platform at the stern and carry jet skis, windsurfers, scuba and snorkelling gear.

There's a spa at sea the size of 11 tennis courts, offering more than 50 treatments and well-being activities. Another cruise ship provides a two-deck semi-enclosed solarium where you can lie and wallow in a whirlpool suspended above the ocean. The choice is extremely wide and, while not all ships have such extensive facilities, most will provide a spa where you can enjoy a rejuvenating and relaxing experience.
